The 2018 Arctic Winter Games will be hosted in the South Slave region of NWT, with nordic ski events taking place at the beautiful trails of the Fort Smith Nordic Club. Fort Smith Nordic also hosted the very successful 2017 NWT Ski Champs this past winter, and are looking forward to welcoming skiers from across the circumpolar region to their venue for the AWGs.
- Cross country ski competition at the Arctic Winter Games is one of the sporting events with the most participants, as all nine contingents usually send full teams, emphasizing the popularity across the circumpolar world of this challenging sport.
- Competition consists of four events: interval start, mass start, relay and sprint for each athlete.
- There are up to eight athletes (four male and four female) in each age category: junior (born in 2000 or 2001), juvenile (born 2002-2003) and midget (born 2004-2005). A team consists of up to twenty-four athletes and three coaches from each participating contingent.
- Fort Smith Nordic Centre boasts winding, technical trails which skiers will find exciting. The Centre is nestled in the boreal forest overlooking the scenic Slave River.
