The 2018 Arctic Winter Games are coming to Fort Smith, NT, this coming March! We’re now inviting applications from coaches who want to take part.
Cross Country NWT will select a head coach, assistant coach, and team manager to lead Team NWT’s skiers at this major event on the territory’s home trails.
Please read the 2018 Arctic Winter Games selection policy in full before applying, to better understand the requirements and format of the Territorial Trials and Arctic Winter Games.
To apply for a coaching position, please fill out this form. The deadline for receipt of coach applications is 10pm MT on October 31, 2017.
To express an interest in joining the Coach Selection Committee which appoints coaches for the Games, click here. Expressions of interest in this role will be accepted until 10pm MT on October 23, 2017.
Athletes wishing to register for Territorial Trials (December 7-9 in Fort Smith), stay tuned for more information once Sport North opens the registration process.
REQUIREMENTS
Head coach must…
• Be certified at Competition Coach Introduction Advanced (Train to Train) or equivalent;
• Demonstrate strong skills as a ski coach;
• Demonstrate good ski technique;
• Actively coach for a minimum of one year prior to selection; and
• Have previous race experience as a ski coach.
Assistant coach must…
• Be certified at Competition Coach Introduction (Learn to Train) or equivalent;
• Demonstrate strong skills as a wax technician;
• Demonstrate good ski technique;
• Actively coach for a minimum of one year prior to selection; and
• Have previous race experience as a ski coach or athlete.
Team manager must…
• Have completed the Community Coach workshop;
• Demonstrate the ability to ski;
• Possess some waxing experience or be willing to learn how to wax skis;
• Demonstrate skill in managing athletes who may have a wide range of skiing experience, ability, qualifications, knowledge, and skills; and
• Demonstrate strong organization and communication skills.
