Past Community Work/Involvement:
Deh Gah school has hosted regional ski tournaments. Skiers have come from Fort Liard, and Trout Lake to join the fun on skis.
Tlicho Region has held a few regional ski events. In 2014, Mezi Community School held a regional ski weekend, attended by students from 4 communities. When possible the Ski North Coordinator will run ski clinics for the classes in a school. The clinics focus on ski skills and learning through playing games on skis. For example, every student in Deline got out for a ski lesson in early December. A Yellowknife Brownie pack enjoyed 2 lessons on skis at the Yellowknife Ski Club. The Ski North Coordinator ran a clinic for the skiers from the communities that attended Arctic Winter Games trials in December.
Fast and Female
Three Fast & Female Northern Youth Empowerment weekends have been held with the support of Ski North. Girls come together to develop their ski skills, participate in a loppet and experience other activities, such as yoga, dance, swimming or crafts. The Fast and Female weekends have been held in Fort Smith, Norman Wells and Yellowknife, with participation from across the territory.
