Community Coach Workshop coming to Fort Smith Feb. 14 - 16, 2014



Join coaches from Hay River and Fort Smith for a coaching course in Fort Smith on Valentines weekend.  Ski Technique, games to teach skiing, physical literacy and much more will be covered in the 16 hour course.  Manuals will be provided.  Ski North can help with travel expenses.Coaches ready to make a snowplow train!

Arctic Winter Games registration is open - Deadline Nov. 8

All athletes interested in trying out for Cross Country Skiing for the 2014 Arctic Winter Games in Fairbanks, Alaska MUST register and pay the $100 fee to Sport North by November 8, 2013

The Arctic Winter Games Trials for Cross Country Skiing will be held at the Yellowknife Ski Club on December 13 and 14

 

There is lots of information available on the Sport North website about AWG:

·   NWT Handbook – READ THIS – it explains some of the details about the Territorial Trials, eligibility, paperwork and expectations of athletes, etc.

·    Selection Criteria – how the athletes and coaches are selected, including the alternate selection process for skiing if the weather is below -20C.

·    Technical Package  – includes details on team size, birth years, distances, etc.

Athletes interested in trying out for the AWG must have a passport that will be valid for the travel dates in March. 

Introduction to Community Coaching (ICC) Workshop in Fort Smith Jan. 11 - 13

The workshop is designed to teach parents and other beginning coaches how to deliver a series of age-appropriate skill development sessions under the supervision of more experienced coaches.

Firth Sisters Inducted into NWT Sport Hall of Fame

Cross Country Ski legends Sharon Firth and Shirley Firth-Larsson were the first individual athletes to be inducted into the new NWT Sport Hall of Fame on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre.

The NWT Sport Hall of Fame has been created by the Sport North Federation to celebrate NWT athletes and sport builders who attain a high level of excellence and bring recognition to the Northwest Territories. Their stories will be showcased to continue to inspire NWT youth to live healthy active lives and set their goals high.
