The Games are over!
Congratulations to our athletes and thank you to our coaches and team manager, all parents involved, and all officials and volunteers. Fort Smith ski club and town were wonderful hosts.

Nicolas Bennett took silver in the 5 km classic, fourth place in the sprint and fifth in the 10 km skate at junior male level. The NWT’s junior male and midget female relay teams were fourth, with the midget male team fifth.

Congratulations to Nicolas Bennett on his silver ulu in the classic 5 km individual start race on Monday at the Arctic Winter Games in Fort Smith.

Nico finished 2.5 seconds behind the winner in Monday’s race. Jack Panayi was 11th and Donny Boake 16th.
In the juvenile male race, Jack Kotaska placed 13th ahead of team-mate Tyson Green in 14th.
On the female side, the territory’s best result on Monday came from Ella Kokelj, who finished 9th in the juvenile 5 km race. Kea Furniss was 14th, Emily Carroll 19th and Rae Panayi 21st.
In the junior division, Niva Stephenson was 12th and Jailyn Louison-Edgi 17th.
Makoa Kokelj, Joseph Curran, Leif Aubrey-Smith and Morgan Young finished 17th-21st in the midget male race on Monday, while Moira Green was 11th in the midget female race with Anais Aubrey-Smith 13th, Sarah Porter 16th and Shannon Mercer 18th.

Congratulations to skiers from the NWT who took part at Canadian national championships in Thunder Bay this week.
Five skiers from our high performance program travelled to the event: Nicolas Bennett, Jack Panayi, Rae Panayi, Jack Kotaska and Tyson Green. The Yellowknife Ski Club was also be represented by two HP alumni, Clair Littlefair and Thomsen D’Hont.
HP skiers were supported by head coach Sheena Tremblay, as well as Mindy Willett and Damian Panayi. Thomsen was also be pulling double duty with racing and team support. Thanks to everyone involved!
Meanwhile, 10 young NWT skiers took part in the Alberta Youth Championships, held in Bragg Creek from March 2-4.
Joe Curran had a bronze medal finish in the classic race, and 5th in the free. Makoa Kokelj and Gillian Furniss set a new personal best in classic.
Shannon Mercer, Morgan Young and Abigail Nevitt all set new personal bests in both free and classic races. Anya Smillie, Kiran Ray, Mina Lockhart, and Lacey Furniss all attended their first out of territory race. Congratulations to all.

Congratulations to Nicolas Bennett, who took silver in his prologue event at the 2018 Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadian Championships on Friday.
Nicolas finished four seconds adrift of Ben Milley from the host Nakkertok club. in a 25-strong field.
Other results reported to Cross Country NWT from Friday include Moira Green’s sixth-place finish in her prologue, and 16th in a prologue field of 51 for Ella Kokelj.
